BELOIT, Wis. - Beloit fell to Carroll (Wis.) University Wednesday night by a score of 7-5 in a game that was tied at five at halftime. Carroll also held a 31-30 shot advantage in an intense game that was evenly played throughout.
Beloit got on the board first, as
Jeffrey Battle scored on a pass from
Liam Walker. Carroll answered with a Brandon Welsek goal just one minute later, but Beloit would grab the lead back with an unassisted goal by
Will Palmer, and another by Battle in the final minutes of the first quarter, giving Beloit a 3-1 lead. Carroll then scored the first three goals of the second quarter, taking a 4-3 lead with eight and a half minutes remaining in the half. Battle then completed a hat trick a couple minutes later to tie it at four, before Palmer added his second goal of the contest to give Beloit the lead in this see-saw battle. Carroll would tie the score at five just before halftime on Welsek's second goal of the game.
Welsek completed a hat trick of his own, scoring his third goal of the game with just under 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter to give Carroll a 6-5 advantage. The Pioneers would get some breathing room in the fourth, as they tacked on an insurance goal by Josh Kovach with just over five minutes to play.
Eric Seo played all 60 minutes at Goal Keeper for the Buccaneers, recording 11 saves. His counterpart, Jake Gehl also played the entire game between the pipes, making 14 saves.
Beloit will be in action again on April 1 when they'll travel to Concordia (Wis.) for their first conference game of the season. That game will begin at Noon in Mequon, Wis.
