BELOIT, Wis. - Beloit's softball team earned a pair of hard fought wins Friday afternoon, sweeping Alverno with a couple of one-run victories, including a walk-off in game one.
Freshman
Kaylee Witte played hero in the first game, ending the game, lacing a bases-loaded two-run double over the left fielder's head with zero outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. That completed a comeback, after Alverno (3-9) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third.
Angela Donath singled home Beloit's first run in the bottom of that frame, while
Maddie Moser singled in another run in the fourth.
Beloit (4-10) finished the first game with seven hits, led by Moser, who went 2-for-2 at the dish.
Samantha Friedrichsohn (1-3) earned the victory, allowing eight hits without allowing an earned run and striking out four without issuing a walk in the seven-inning complete game.
In the nightcap, it was Beloit who scored first, as Moser continued her productive day with an RBI double to left center. Alverno would take the lead in the top of the fourth on a two-run double, setting the stage for another nail-biting finish. In the bottom of the fourth,
Briana Arteaga came to bat with two outs and the bases loaded, still trailing by one, when she ripped a single to right center, scoring the two go-ahead runs. The game was called due to darkness after Alverno didn't score in the fifth.
Beloit finished game two with seven hits, including two apiece from Arteaga and Witte.
Cora Aubert (2-3) earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs and striking out two, without issuing a walk in a five-inning complete game. Alverno finished with six hits in the contest.
With thier winning streak now at three games, Beloit will try to continue their momentum on Wednesday when they'll travel to Carroll University. That doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m. in Waukesha, Wis.
