BELOIT, Wis. - Beloit's softball team swept a doubleheader from Mount Mary Sunday afternoon, winning game one 5-0, before completing the sweep with a 17-7 victory in game two. That extends the Buccaneers' win streak to five games, and improves their record to 5-1 since returning from their Spring Trip a couple weeks ago.
The first game of the day saw all of the scoring happen in one inning, as Beloit recorded a five-run third.
Maddie Moser broke a scoreless tie with a double to deep center, allowing
Angela Donath to cross the plate. One batter later, Moser scored on a double down the left field line by
Kaylee Witte.
Sydney Harbison would break the game wide open later in the inning, clearing the bases with a three-run double to left center.
Moser was white hot in this game, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish.
Isabella Acosta added two hits, as Beloit finished with 11 as a team.
Cora Aubert (3-3) earned the win, scattering seven hits over five scoreless innings.
Beloit's bats really didn't come alive until game two, which saw the Buccaneers record 15 hits. They wasted no time, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first to take control of the game early. After the first three Beloit batters of the game reached base, Witte broke a scoreless tie with a grand slam to deep left field.
Amanda Langford and
Siddalee Meyers would each add an RBI single later in the inning, which saw 11 Bucs come to the plate. Mount Mary got on the board with an RBI double in the top of the second, but Beloit added to their lead in the bottom half of that frame when Witte smacked her second home run in as many innings with a two run shot to over the left centerfield fence.
After Mount Mary scored once more in the top of the third, Beloit put the game away with nine runs in the bottom of that frame.. Arteaga started that rally with an RBI single up the middle, which was followed by a two-run single off the bat of
Stella Lutes.
Hannah Beran then provided the biggest hit, a grand slam home run to left to give Beloit a 17-2 lead after three innings. The Buccaneers' three home runs ties a single game school record, which was originally set nine years ago.
Beloit had five players finish with a multi-hit game, led by Witte's 3-for-3 performance at the plate, which included six RBI, just two shy of the single game school record. Witte's two home runs ties a single game school record, which was last accomplished during the 2005 season. She also earned her first collegiate victory in the circle, allowing just one earned run on three hits and striking out two in three innings of work. Meyers, Arteaga, Moser, and Lutes each finished the game with two hits, with Moser scoring a game-high three runs.
The Buccaneers will try to stay hot on Monday when they're scheduled to play Maranatha Baptist in a doubleheader, beginning at 3 p.m. at Strong Stadium Complex in Beloit, Wis.
