Beloit Improves To 4-0 In MWC, Defeats Chicago In Pitchers' Duel

CHICAGO, Ill. - Beloit's baseball team continued their hot start to the season, winning their fifth consecutive game and remaining undefeated in conference play with a 1-0 win at University of Chicago Tuesday afternoon.

In what was a true pitchers' duel, the game featured just nine hits combined, with only one of those going for extra bases. That lone extra base hit proved to be the difference in the game, as Beloit's Matt O'Leary took a two-out pitch over the right field wall for a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning, his second homer of the season.

O'Leary was the only player on either team to record more than one hit, going 2-for-4 at the plate from the leadoff position. On the mound, Thomas Kosakowski (2-0) remained unbeaten on the season, tossing six innings of two-hit ball, while striking out five in the combined shutout. Tommy Murray then came on to pitch the final three frames, allowing just one hit, while striking out four to earn his first save of the year. All three hits by Chicago (6-7, 0-1 MWC) were singles.

Beloit (9-5, 4-0 MWC) will try to continue to ride their wave of momentum on Saturday when they'll play a single game at Knox College. That contest will begin at 2 p.m. in Galesburg, Ill.
