MEQUON, Wis. - Beloit opened their 2023 conference season Saturday afternoon with an 18-2 loss at Concordia (Wis.). The Falcons also out-shot Beloit by a 57-13 margin.
Beloit gave Concordia all they could handle for one quarter of play. After the Falcons scored the game's first three goals mid-way through the first quarter, Beloit tried to make a game of it, scoring their first goal with just under six minutes remaining in the quarter, on a shot by reigning Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week,
Johanna McNair. They added a second three minutes later to cut Concordia's lead to one, which they would extend to two with another goal before the quarter ended. The Falcons then added three more goals in the second period to take a 7-2 lead into halftime.
After halftime, Concordia firmly put the game away, scoring five goals in the third quarter, before adding six more in the fourth to cap the scoring. Three Concordia players recorded hat tricks on the day, led by four goals apiece from Kami McCardle and Katelyn Cardinale, while Olivia Niego added three goals.
Sofia Jeddeloh played all 60 minutes at Goal Keeper for the Buccaneers, making 29 saves. Her counterpart Madison Myers also played the entire game, saving seven shots for Concordia.
Beloit will try to rebound on Wednesday when they'll travel to Concordia-Chicago. That game will begin at 2 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
