BELOIT, Wis. - In what is their only home meet of the season, Beloit's men's and women's track & field teams both finished in fourth place out of nine teams at Saturday's Beloit Relays. The men's team finished with 77 team points, while the Buccaneers women's team scored 99 points, which was just six shy of the second-highest total.
The women's competition was highlighted by
T'Aira Boyance, who won both the 100 and 200 meters with times of 12.29 and 25.52, respectively. Her time in the 100 breaks her own top time in the event in the Midwest Conference ths season. Boyance also ran a leg on the first-place 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Joining her on the 4x100 were
Jordyn McDonald,
Alayna Furch, and
Hannah Welte, while Furch, McDonald, and
Candis Damste joined her on the 4x400 team.
McDonald added a second-place finish in both the the 100 and meters with times of 12.37 and 26.08, which were both less than sixth-tenths of a second shy of Boyance's top times. Furch also had a second-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 61.49, which was 0.48 seconds shy of the top time. Liz Kalk added a second-place finish inthe high jump (1.63m), while Welte won the 400 hurdles with a time of 66.33, which was more than two seconds better than the second-place time.
In the men's competition,
Nate Otis had one of the better showings, winning the 400 hurdles (57.16), while placing third in the 110 hurdles (16.04).
Diontia Charles also won an event, placing first in the high jump (1.87m).
Alexandre Atou added a third-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 51.05, which was less than a second off the pace of the winning time.
Beloit will be in action again on Saturday when they'll travel to Rock Island, Ill. to take part in Augustana's Meet of Champions at 11 a.m.
