BELOIT, Wis. - Beloit's softball team lost a pair of games to Elmhurst College Thursday afternoon in non-conference play. The Buccaneers lost the first game 15-2 in five innings, and after an hour and a half rain delay, also dropped game two by a score of 5-1 in six innings.
Elmhurst (12-15) got on the board in the top of the first on a two-run triple to right center field. Beloit (8-18) cut that lead in half on a sac fly from
Kaylee Witte in the bottom of that inning, before tying the game in the second on an RBI single by
Siddalee Meyers.
Elmhurst then broke the game wide open with a 12-run third inning, which saw the Blue Jays collect nine hits and leave one runner stranded. They would add one more run in the fourth to cap the scoring.
Beloit recorded five hits in the game, with two apiece coming from Meyers and
Angela Donath. Elmhurst registered 13 hits, with four players posting a pair of base knocks.
After an hour and a half rain delay, game two got underway with Elmhurst scoring two runs in the top of the first. Beloit cut that lead in half in the bottom of that inning when
Briana Arteaga crossed the plate via a passed ball, but that would be the only run the Bucs would score. Elmhurst added two more in the second and another in the fourth before the game ended prematurely due to darkness.
Beloit finished the game with five hits, including doubles from Arteaga and Meyers. Elmhurst recorded 11 hits in game two, with three players finishing with a multi-hit game.
The Buccaneers will now get back to conference play as they'll travel to Monmouth College on Saturday. That doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. in Monmouth, Ill.
