MONMOUTH, Ill. - Beloit's softball team dropped both games of their doubleheder at Monmouth on Saturday, losing the first game 6-0, before falling by a score of 7-5 in game two.
The day's first game saw Monmouth jump out to an early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning, and two more in the second. The Fighting Scots would add a pair of RBI doubles in the fifth to cap the scoring.
Beloit's lone hit in the game came from
Angela Donath in the fourth inning. Monmouth recorded 12 hits, with four players recording a multi-hit game.
Game two saw the Buccaneers strike first with two runs in the top of the first, scoring on an error and an RBI single by
Jocelyn Jordan. Monmouth answered with two runs in the bottom of that inning to tie the score, before adding three more in the second. That lead lasted until the fourth when Beloit scored three runs of their own on an RBI single by
Colleen Quinlivan and a two-run double off the bat of Donath to tie the game at five. Monmouth again had an answer for that in the bottom of the inning, scoring on an error and a bases loaded groundout to earn the victory.
Beloit's seven hits came from seven different players, with Donath's double being the team's only extra base hit.
Helena Harrison allowed just three hits in 2.2 scoreless innings of relief, but Monmouth's 11 hits proved to be too much.
The Buccaneers will be in action again on Sunday when they'll travel to Grinnell College. That doubleheader will begin at Noon in Grinnell, Iowa.
