GRINNELL, Iowa - Beloit's softball team lost both games of their doubleheader Sunday at Grinnell College. The Buccaneers fell 8-0 in five innings in game number one, before losing the nightcap 12-4 in six innings.
Grinnell (20-10, 10-0 MWC) remained undefeated in conference play with the two victories. They struck first in game one with a pair of runs in the first, before scoring three times in the second and grabbing three more runs in the final two frames to cap the scoring.
Beloit (8-22, 0-10 MWC) recorded five hits in the game, with
Maddie Moser and
Siddalee Meyers each going 2-for-2 at the dish.
Briana Arteaga recorded the Bucs' only other hit, as she roped her third double of the season. The Pioneers finished with seven hits.
Grinnell also jumped out to an early lead in the day's second game, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first, including a two-run homer to left center field, and an RBI triple to the same part of the park. Beloit would cut that lead in half in the top of the third when
Angela Donath connected on a two-run homer, the second of her career, and first this season. Grinnell would answer with a two-run homer of their own in the bottom of that inning, while also adding another run to take a 7-2 lead.
Grinnell added two more runs on a double in the fourth, but Beloit answered with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, scoring on an RBI single by
Kaylee Witte and on a fielder's choice. Grinnell would end the game with three runs in the sixth.
Three of Beloit's eight hits came fro Donath, while
Jess Coppe added two hits, including a double, while also scoring two runs. Grinnell finished with 13 hits, with four players notching a multi-hit effort.
Beloit will be in action again on Wednesday when they'll travel to UW-Platteville. That doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m. in Platteville, Wis.
