BELOIT, Wis. - Beloit's baseball team lost to Illinois Wesleyan Sunday afternoon by a score of 11-5. The Titans also outhit the Buccaneers by a 14-10 margin.
The two teams were mired in a pitchers duel for the first four innings, until Illinois Wesleyan (14-18) broke a scoreless tie with six runs in the top of the fifth inning. Beloit (22-10) got one of those runs back in the bottom of that inning when
Garrison Ferone homered to right center field.
Illinois Wesleyan then scored another run in the sixth and one more in the seventh, before Beloit got on the board again with a
Brett Kiger RBI single in the seventh. The Buccaneers would score two more runs on a
Jack Alport single and another on a solo home run by Kiger in the ninth, his school record 12th long-ball of the season and 25th of his career, but it was not enough to overcome that six-run fifth by the Titans.
Beloit was led by Ferone's three hits, which gives him 204 for his career, tying the school record. Kiger added two hits for the Buccaneers. Illinois Wesleyan had four players record a multi-hit game.
The Buccaneers will get back to conference play on Tuesday when they'll travel to Lawrence University. That game will begin at 1 p.m. in Appleton, Wis.
