The College Sports Communicators (CSC; formerly CoSIDA) released their annual Academic All-District Team earlier this week for Men's and Women's Track & Field, with Beloit placing one student-athlete on each of those teams. Representing the Buccaneers' men's team is senior
Brandon Joly, while junior
Candis Damste made an appearance on the women's team.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom, and requires a student-athlete to have a 3.50 cumulative Grade Point Average, or higher, and have at least sophomore standing at their institution.
This year's Ed DeGeorge Award winner, Joly hs helped Beloit's men's 4x400 meter relay team to a pair of third=place finishes, the 4x200 team to two second-place finishes, and the 4x100 relay team to two third-place finishes at the MWC Championships. A native of Seymour, WIs., Joly has also won the MWC's Elite 20 Award on two occasions, while also receiving the Roy W. LeClere award for having the highest Grade Point Average in the conference during his junior year.
Originally from Accra, Ghana, Damste helped Beloit's 4x400 relay team establish a new school record this year. She teamed up with
T'Aira Boyance,
Alayna Furch, and
Jordyn McDonald to run a time of 3:48.47 in that event.
