Women's Basketball Wins Third Straight, Upsets Illinois College

BELOIT, Wis. - This afternoon the Beloit College Women's basketball team hosted and defeated the Illinois College Lady Blues. The upset victory marked the Bucs' third straight victory. The Lady Blues outscored the Bucs in the first three quarters, before Beloit held them to just seven points over the final ten minutes, a mark they hit for the second time this season.

The game saw six ties and six lead changes, but none were bigger than the tie and lead change sequence in the final two minutes of the game. With 1:56 remaining, Hannah Welte (Clinton, Wis.) knocked down two free throws to tie the game at 60. Thirty seconds later, she hit another two to give Beloit a two point advantage. Hailey Johnson (South Milwaukee, Wis.) sealed the deal when she buried one of two free throws with 14 seconds left.

Welte led Beloit with her third twenty point game of the season, scoring a team-high 21 points, including a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe. She added six rebounds, three steals and two assists. In nineteen minutes of action off the bench, Johnson scored in double-figures for the ninth time this season with 12. She hauled in five boards. Marlee Young (Beloit, Wis.) established herself as a menace on the boards, grabbing seven to go along with eight points.

The Buccaneers host the Vikings of Lawrence Univeristy on Tuesday at Flood Arena. Tip off is set for 7:30pm. Beloit looks to extend their win streak to four but will need to avenge an early season loss to do so.
