RIPON, Wis. - One goal was all it took for the Beloit College Women's Soccer team to defeat the Ripon College Red Hawks this afternoon.
The Buccaneers (3-8-3, 2-1-1 MWC) and Red Hawks (2-8-3, 0-3-1 MWC) evenly matched in terms of shots. Beloit edged Ripon out slightly, 13(7)-10(6). The Bucs had more opportunities on set pieces, specifically corners where they had nine and RC had just two.Â
The difference maker came off the foot of
Megan Thompson (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) in the 58th minute when
Abigail Membrino (Darien, Wis.) served the ball into Thompson to give Beloit the 1-0 advantage. The goal marked Thompson's 8th of the season, a career-high. Eight goals puts her one behind the MWC leader. Over the final 30+ minutes, the Red Hawks served three shots in
Maya Betzler's (College Place, Wash.)Â direction.Â
The Buccaneers are back in action on Saturday, October 19th when they host the Knox College Prairie Fire at the Strong Complex Soccer Field. The Buccaneers will celebrate senior day prior to the 3:30 pm kick off.Â
