STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The Beloit College Men's soccer team traveled to Stevens Point to face off against the first-year UW-Stevens Point Pointers. The Buccaneers (1-10-0, 0-1-0 MWC) scored once in the 5-1 loss to the Pointers (7-2-3, 0-0-0).
The Buccaneers had their opportunities to score, firing off 11 total shots, with seven on goal. After UWSP jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first three minutes, the Beloit defense settled in and
Nicholas Williams (Fenton, MO) cut the lead in half in the 33rd minute.
Benjamin Eilbes (Madison, Wis.) and
Santiago Gomez (Marietta, GA) assisted on the goal.
In the end, the Pointers' offense proved too strong for the Bucs. They launched a total of 21 shots, 12 of those registering on goal. Their final three goals came in the second half, in the 50th, 63rd and 87th minutes.
Three Buccaneer goalies got action in tonight's match.
David Staats (Meridian, ID) got the start and manned the goal for the first 40 minutes of action. He recorded three saves.
Cody Nowaczyk (Elkhorn, Wis.) took over for the next 34+ minutes, also recording three saves.
Henry Amini closed out the final 15 minutes, making one save.
The Bucs head back into the MWC on Saturday when they host the Monmouth College Fighting Scots. Kick off from the Strong Complex Soccer field is set for 11 am.
