BELOIT, Wis. - After nearly seventy minutes of scoreless soccer, Beloit's
Tony Vogt (Elkhorn, Wis.) broke the tie with his team-leading third goal of the season. The Buccaneers (2-10-0, 1-1-0 MWC) and Vogt added another goal in the 75th minute to secure the 2-0 win over the Fighting Scots of Monmouth College.
The Fighting Scots (2-6-2, 0-1-1 MWC) had plenty of chances, sending 17 shots on goal but Buccaneer keeper
David Staats (Meridian, ID) had the game of his career. Staats coraled a career-high 16 saves.Â
With the score tied at the half, the Bucs needed to put something together to try to slow down the historically strong second-half Scots. The Buccaneers didn't register their first shot in the second half until the 59th minute. Beloit did exactly that, and doubled their amount of shots in the second frame and held the Fighting Scots to 13 total shots.Â
Cesar Alvarez and
Juan Calzada (Madison, Wis.) picked up assists on Vogt's goals for both of their firsts on the season.Â
The Buccaneers return to action on Wednesday, October 9th at home against the Lawrence University Vikings. Kick off from Strong Complex is 3:30 pm.Â
