BELOIT, Wis. - The Beloit College Volleyball team hosted and swept the Maranatha Baptist Sabercats this evening. The Buccaneers (3-18, 0-5 MWC) quickly took the first set, 25-14 before MBU (2-23) tried to rally to take the second set. The Buccaneers turned on the gas and closed out sets two and three, 25-22 and 25-13.
The Buccaneers closed out the first set on a 12-6 run to a one set lead. The Sabercats clawed their way in the second, putting together a 5-0 run to take an early 9-6 advantage. The Bucs fought to tie the set at 13 all before going on their own 5-0 run. That was enough to secure the set with MBU pulling within one twice but never tying. In the third set, BC fell behind briefly before
Siddalee Meyers (Orfordville, Wis.) stepped back to serve and took the Bucs on a 14-0 run to close the door and give Beloit the sweep.
The Buccaneers were led by
McKayla "Maka" Simao (Sparta, Wis.) who recorded 10 kills, 8 digs and one service ace.
Naomi Murphy (Dubuque, Iowa) and
Kierra Rayne Hoover (Albuquerque, New Mexico) each added seven kills. Hoover led the Bucs with three blocks.
Selin Tufte (Clarkdale, AZ) was one off her career-high with 20 assists, marking her second match with at least 20 assists.
The Bucs will look to get their second straight win when they head to Watertown and Maranatha on Tuesday, October 29th. That match from the MBU Gymnasium is set to start at 7 pm.
