WATERTOWN, Wis. - For the first time this season, the Beloit College Volleyball team has won back-to-back games after sweeping the Maranatha Baptist University Sabercats for the second time in five days. The Buccaneers (4-18, 0-5 MWC) swept the Sabercats (2-24), 25-11, 25-17, 25-23.
In the first set, both teams traded points before the Bucs took a 9-7 lead. From there, they rattled off eight straight points, growing their lead to nine, 16-7. The Buccaneers allowed MBU to score just four more points in the first set and sailed to a 25-11 win.
The Sabercats kept the second set closer. The Buccaneers finished the set on a 17-9 runs after the score was tied at eight. The Bucs capitalized on MBU errors to secure the second set after posting their lowest amount of kills.
Maranatha made the third and final set the closet, pushing the Bucs to the limit before falling 23-25.
The Buccaneers' offense was led by
Kierra Rayne Hoover (Albuquerque, New Mexico) with eight kills.
Camille Ledoux (Saint-Liboire, Quebec, Canada) finished just behind her with six kills as well as two blocks and two service aces.
McKayla "Maka" Simao (Sparta, Wis.) registered four kills, and a team-high ten digs.
Emily Ortiz (Aurora, IL) served up four service aces and nine assists.
Lizzie Paschal (Holbrook, AZ) led all setters with 11 assists. Freshman
Adelaide Schmitt (Aurora, CO) put together a solid three sets with nine digs and three aces.
The Buccaneers head back into Midwest Conference play on Friday when they host Lawrence University. Friday's match will also be Senior night, the Bucs will celebrate four seniors.
