BELOIT, Wis. - Despite a strong effort led by
Dae'Quan Davis's (Chicago, Ill.) 16 points, Beloit fell to Rockford 74-62 at Flood Arena on Wednesday night. The Buccaneers fall to 2-3 (0-0 MWC) while Rockford improves to 3-1 (0-0 NACC).
Davis was efficient from the field, shooting 8-of-12, with most of his damage coming inside the paint.
Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) added 10 points, including three 3-pointers, while
Ryan Nixon (Waukesha, Wis.) also contributed 10 points with a perfect 6-for-7 performance from the free throw line.
The Buccaneers struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 33.3% (6-of-18) on three-pointers, and had difficulty at the free throw line, converting only 50% (8-of-16) of their attempts. Though they managed to stay competitive in field goal percentage (44.4% compared to Rockford's 43.9%), turnovers proved costly as Beloit committed 17 to Rockford's 13.
Semaj Roy (Chicago, Ill.) provided a strong presence on the glass with 9 rebounds, but picked up two technical fouls in the second half. Beloit briefly held a 2-point lead early in the first half but couldn't maintain it, as Rockford controlled the lead for nearly 35 minutes of the contest.
The Buccaneers are off for the Thanksgiving holiday before kicking off Midwest Conference play on Tuesday, December 3rd when they host the Vikings of Lawrence University. Tip off is set for 7:30 pm in Flood Arena.
