Men's Basketball Defeats Millikin in One Point Thriller

BELOIT, Wis. - After trailing by eight at the break, the Beloit College Men's Basketball team rallied in the second half to defeat the Millikin University Big Blue (0-1, 0-0 CCIW) by one, 70-69.

The Buccaneers (1-0, 0-0 MWC) tied the game at 46 with about 11 and a half minutes left. After a back and fourth few minutes, and a momentum swinging dunk from Semaj Roy (Chicago, Ill.), the Bucs took the lead for good on two made free throws from Azeez Ganiyu (Beloit, Wis.). Millikin wouldn't be denied, with 0.02 seconds on the clock, they made it a one point game with a desperation three. Beloit threw the ball in, and the final buzzer sounded. 

The Bucs were forced to play scrappy, with the Big Blue outscoring them in the paint, 36-22. MU scored 17 second chance points, compared to Beloit's one. The Bucs shot 44.4% from the field, 42.3% from deep and 73.3% from the charity stripe. Free throws would be crucial down the stretch for the Bucs who went 11-15 with all 15 free throws coming in the second half. 

Roy and Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) were the leading scorers for the Bucs, who saw ten players score. Roy led with 19 points, eight rebounds, an assist and steal. Carter posted ten points in thirty minutes of action in his first career start. He grabbed five boards, dished out two assists and forced one steal. Forward Ganiyu led the team in assists with seven, he added eight rebounds and nine points as well. 

The Buccaneers are home on Thursday, November 14th against Marian University. Tip off from Flood Arena is set for 5 pm.
