Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Rams

BELOIT, Wis. - In a Midwest Conference match up at Flood Arena this evening, The Beloit College Men's Basketball team fell to Cornell College 85-71. The Buccaneers (3-5, 1-2 MWC) trailed the Rams (7-3, 3-1 MWC) at the half and their second half push came up short.

Dae'Quan Davis (Chicago, Ill.) led the Buccaneers with an impressive double-double, scoring 22 points and pulling down 17 rebounds, both career-highs.

The game was competitive early, with Beloit building their largest lead of 8 points (15-7) at the 14:44 mark of the first half. However, Cornell gradually took control, leading for nearly 32 minutes of the contest. Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) contributed 19 points for Beloit, while Ryan Nixon (Waukesha, Wis.) added 14 points off the bench, including some timely baskets in the second half.

Despite shooting a respectable 42.1% from three-point range (8-19), Beloit struggled to maintain consistency, particularly in the second half where Cornell's lead ballooned to as much as 17 points. The Buccaneers made several small runs to stay within striking distance, but Cornell's balanced scoring attack, led by Dylan Hurley (17 points) and Jayden Meeker (18 points), proved too much to overcome.

Beloit's defense generated only three steals compared to Cornell's seven, and they were outscored 24-6 in points off turnovers.

The Buccaneers head south next week for a tournament in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Bucs will face Geneva College (Pa.) on Thursday, December 19th at 6 pm ET and wrap up play the following day against Augsburg at 6 pm ET.
