DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - In a tight basketball contest at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida, Beloit College (3-6, 1-2 MWC) fell just short against Geneva (4-6, 3-3 PAC), losing 68-63. The game was a back-and-forth affair featuring 14 lead changes and 7 ties.
The Buccaneers had a strong offensive showing early, taking a 17-12 lead in the first half behind
Azeez Ganiyu's (Beloit, Wis.) efficient play. Ganiyu finished with 14 points and 7 rebounds, shooting an impressive 7-of-11 from the field.
Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) led the Buccaneers with 15 points, while
Dae'Quan Davis (Chicago, Ill.) added a solid all-around performance with 13 points and 9 rebounds.
Despite shooting a better overall field goal percentage (46.3% compared to Geneva's 44.4%), Beloit struggled from three-point range, hitting just 4-of-17 attempts (23.5%). Geneva, meanwhile, found success from beyond the arc, connecting on 12-of-27 three-pointers (44.4%), which proved to be a crucial difference in the game.
The game remained close throughout, with Beloit leading 31-32 at halftime. The teams traded leads in the second half, but Geneva pulled ahead in the final minutes, sealing their victory with clutch free throws. Beloit's bench contributed 14 points, matching Geneva's bench production, but it wasn't enough to overcome the visitors' hot shooting from distance.
