BELOIT, Wis.- With the Midwest Conference Tournament looming, the Beloit College Men's Basketball team needs every win they can to control their own destiny to secure a spot in the tournament for the first time since the 2000-01 season. The Buccaneers (15-8, 8-6 MWC) are one step closer after a 78-62 win over Knox College (12-12, 5-9 MWC) this afternoon.
The Bucs got out to a flat start, falling behind 10-3 four minutes into the game. Over the next six minutes,
Michael Myles (Atlanta, Ga.) got hot, hitting four triples that helped give Beloit a 22-20 advantage. The Prairie Fire didn't go away and after a back-and-fourth half, it looked like KC would take a 3-point lead into the break.
Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) hit a corner three as time expired to tie the game at 37.
In the second half, the Bucs started to run away with it. They took their first double-digit lead at the 14:06 mark following five straight points from
Semaj Roy (Chicago, Ill.). Knox never got within ten points again and Beloit coasted to the win.
With a modified lineup, Roy led the Bucs with 17 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Azeez Ganiyu (Beloit, Wis.) scored 15 while grabbing four rebounds and blocking two shots. Myles was the third Buc to record double-figures with 14 points on 4-6 shooting from downtown. He secured six rebounds before fouling out in just 16 minutes of action.
The Buccaneers stay home to host the Grinnell Pioneers on Wednesday, February 14th. Tip off is set for 5:30pm.
