BELOIT, Wis.- For the first time since the 2000-01 season the Beloit College Men's basketball team is headed to the Midwest Conference Tournament. The Buccaneers secured their spot with a 117-97 win over the second seeded Grinnell Pioneers.
The Buccaneers (16-8, 9-6 MWC) led from wire to wire in their highest scoring game of the season. A total of seven Bucs scored in double figures, while the team shot 60.5% (46-76) from the field. The Pioneers (17-6, 11-4 MWC), known for their perimeter shooting, shot only 32% (16-50) from deep. Beloit countered by pounding the paint and scoring 66 of their 117 points down low.
Semaj Roy (Chicago, Ill.) broke his career-high in scoring while also recording his third double-double of the season by posting a 25 point, 11 rebound, four assist and one steal stat line. Off the bench,
Dae'Quan Davis (Chicago, Ill.) came up huge in the second half for the Bucs, scoring 16 of his 18 points in the second half.
Azeez Ganiyu (Beloit, Wis.) recorded yet another double-double. Ganiyu scored 14 with 11 boards. He added one block and two steals.
Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) scored 14 points on 5-8 (2-3 3pt) shooting in 19 minutes of action.
Clayton Jenny (Edgerton, Wis.) had a full stat line with 11 points, five assists, three steals and two rebounds. Both
Lathan Lewis (Rockford, Ill.) and
Ethan Bozzo (Irvine, Calif.) had ten points as well. Bozzo also dished out four assists while grabbing five boards and Lewis secured four boards.
Beloit will wrap up the regular season on the road on Saturday against Lake Forest College. Tip off in Lake Forest, Ill. is set for 1pm.
