BELOIT, Wis. - The Beloit College Track and Field teams traveled into Chicago on Saturday to compete at the Margaret Bradley Invitational hosted by the University of Chicago.
Men: 2nd of 8 Teams
The Buccaneers continued to use their speed to bring in the points. Once again,
Josh Yearby (West Park, FL) took home the lone individual first place finish. Yearby finished first in the 200m with a time of 23.05 seconds. He will need to run under 23 seconds to crack the top five in the MWC. He also placed third in the 60m, toeing the line in 7.10 seconds.
Alexandre Atou (Abomey Calavi, Benin) had a day for the Bucs as well, running the lead off leg on the winning 4x400 relay as well as placing third in the 400m with a time of 51.22. He now holds the top spot in the conference by 0.05 seconds. Atou,
Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.),
Izzy Zewdie (Las Vegas, Nev.) and
Daniel DeGeorge (Bettendorf, Iowa) once again took the top time in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:31.85. Off the track, Otis and
Diontia Charles (Riverdale, Ill.) tied for 5th in the high jump, hitting the 1.73 mark. Freshman
Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.) placed 4th in the shot put (12.84m) and 5th in the weighted throw (13.05m).
Women: 5th of 9 Teams
On the Women's side,
Candis Damste (Accra, Ghana) took home the highest individual finish when she placed 2nd in the 400m with a time of 1:00.10. She now holds the top time in the MWC for the 400. Damste also ran the second leg of the 4x400 along with
Sophia Miller,
Marianna Carus (Ottawa, Ill.) and
Alayna Furch (Saint Charles, Mo.). Together they took home 2nd with a time of 4:18.34.
Darcel Royster (Chicago, Ill.) and
Jaeonie Echols (Kansas City, MO) placed sixth and seventh in the 60m with Royster running a 8.40 and Echols running a 8.43.
Naomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla) shattered Beloit's previous indoor pole vault record with a 3.02m attempt that also moved her into the top five in the MWC.
Kit Kronberger (Wausau, Wis.) continues to improve in the throws, placing sixth in both the shot put (9.56m) and weighted throw (11.63m). Both throws are personal bests and cracked the top 20 in the MWC.
The Buccaneers head back to Ripon, Wis. next weekend for the Midwest Conference Indoor Championships.
