RIPON, Wis. - The Beloit College Indoor Track and Field teams have spent the last two days competing in the 2024 MWC Indoor Championships in Ripon, Wis.. The Buccaneers bring home seven top three finishes, including first place finishes by
Candis Damtse (Accra, Ghana) and the women's 4x400 meter relay team.
Women:
Damtse capped off her stellar indoor season by winning both the 200 and 400 meter sprints. Her finals time of 26.14 not only gave her the championship crown but also clocks in as the fastest time in the conference this year. By running a 59.01 in the 400m finals she becomes the only MWC Female 400 runner to clock a sub-1 minute time this season. The group of
Sophia Miller (Salem, Ore.), Damtse,
Jaeonie Echols (Kansas City, MO) and
Alayna Furch (Saint Charles, Mo.) combined to win the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:04.19, for the fastest time in the MWC this season. The 4x200 relay team comprised of Echols, Damtse,
Darcel Royster (Chicago, Ill.) and Furch finished in 2nd place (1:46.13), under a second behind the first place team (1:45.63). In her first meet post basketball season,
Elizabeth Kalk (Clinton, Wis.) placed second in the high-jump hitting 1.60m. For the second straight meet,
Naomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla) broke the school record for pole vault. This week she broke her previous record of 3.02m with a jump of 3.04m, placing 4th.
Men:
On the men's side, the 4x400 relay team made up of
Alexandre Atou (Abomey Calavi, Benin),
Daniel DeGeorge (Bettendorf, Iowa),
Izzy Zewdie (Las Vegas, Nev.), and
Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.) placed 3rd, clocking in at 3:28.00.
Josh Yearby (West Park, FL) and Atou also brought home fourth place finishes. Yearby in the 60m sprint with a 6.98 and Atou in the 400m with a 51.31. The men's 4x200 relay team consisting of Atou, DeGeorge, Otis and Yearby missed the podium by 0.09 seconds. Off the track,
Kevon Mills (Key West, FL) took home 2nd in the high jump by clearing the 1.86m mark.
The Buccaneers will run again in Ripon next weekend at the Last Chance Meet.
