BELOIT, Wis. - The Beloit College Women's basketball team upset the Cornell College Rams this afternoon in a back and forth game that saw twelve ties and nine lead changes. The Buccaneers took the lead late in the third quarter and held for the remainder of the game to take a 65-57 win.
The Buccaneers (8-13, 6-7 MWC) used a physicality down low as an x-factor in the win. Beloit scored 28 points in the paint compared to just 14 from Cornell. The Bucs bench also played a major factor in the win, contributing 25 points. The Rams (8-13, 6-6 MWC) edged out the Bucs slightly on the boards, 37-34 but pulled down ten offensive rebounds, leading to six second chance points.
Elizabeth Kalk (Clinton, Wis.) and
Hailey Johnson (South Milwaukee, Wis.) both scored a game-high 19 points. Johnson's 19 marked a new career-high for the Sophomore off the bench. Kalk added eight rebounds, five assists and a steal. Johnson pulled down five boards.
Hannah Welte (Clinton, Wis.) also hit the double-digit mark with 11. She recorded five rebounds and four steals in a the all around effort.
The Buccaneers head out of the MWC for their next game when they welcome the Blue Angels of Mt. Mary to Flood Arena on Tuesday. Tip off is set for 7pm.
