Softball Drops Opening Games at THE Spring Games

LEESBURG, Fla.- The Beloit College softball team opened play at THE Spring Games this afternoon with games against the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg and Macalester College. After storms overnight delayed the Buccaneers start, they fell in both games, 3-4 to UPitt at Greensburg and 2-8 to Macalester College.

Game 1 vs UPG:
The Bobcats got on the board first in the top of the third after the lead off batter hit an infield single, a sacrifice bunt and a hit by pitch. A double to left field scored one and a popup to short got the Bucs out of the inning. Beloit immediately answered in the bottom of the inning. Isabel Johnson (Austin, Texas) walked and advanced to second when Angela Donath (Wausau, Wis.) reached on an error by the left fielder. Briana Arteaga (Covina, Calif.) doubled to left center, scoring both Johnson and Donath. Siddalee Meyers (Orfordville, Wis.) brought around Arteaga with a single to right field. After a scoreless fourth for both teams, the Bobcats plated the final three runs of the game in the top of the fifth. Samantha Friedrichsohn (Waukesha, WI) got the start in the circle, going 4.1 innings, striking out two. Kaylee Witte came in in relief over the final 2.2 innings.

Game 2 vs MC:
The Buccaneers offense struggled to get going in the second game. Despite recording seven hits, they only plated two runs. Beloit plated their only two runs in the sixth inning. Witte led off the inning with a single to center. She advanced to third on a Johnson single to left. Johnson then stole second to put two runners in scoring position. Sydney Harbison (Beloit, Wis.) walked to load the bases. Witte came into score on a wild pitch before Donath singled to center to score Johnson.

The Buccaneers will look to bounce back tomorrow morning against The College of Wooster (9:15am) and Haverford College (11:30am).
