Baseball Bounces Back With Win Over Stockton

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Beloit College Baseball team bounced back this afternoon beating Stockton University 8-1 in their only game of the day.

Both teams were held scoreless over the first three innings with the Buccaneers (2-3, 0-0 MWC) striking first in the top of the fourth. Evan Zenger (Burr Ridge, Ill.) led off the inning with a hit by pitch before stealing second on a failed pick off attempt. A single from Miles Souza (Carpinteria, Calif.) pushed Zenger 90 feet from scoring and a sacrifice fly to right field from Elijah Love (Madison, Wis.) broke the 0-0 tie. Stockton notched their only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.

Beloit used small ball and errors in the 5th to break open the game and put up a four spot. After a strikeout to start the inning, Jack Alport (Arlington Heights, Ill.) singled to right field. He stole second on a failed pick off attempt. He moved over to third on a passed ball. Matt O'Leary (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) singled to left field to drive in Alport. Connor Vogel (Palmdale, Calif.) kept the rally alive for the Bucs with a single to right. Brett Kiger (Beloit, Wis.) reached base on an error by the shortstop that allowed O'Leary to score. Zenger drove in the 4th Beloit run with the 4th single of the inning. Kiger came in to score on a Souza sac fly to center to extend the lead to 5-1.

The final two runs for the Bucs came in the 7th and 8th innings. O'Leary led off the inning with a single and moved over to second on 4th failed pick off attempt of the game. O'Leary scored when he stole third and came around to score on a throwing error by the catcher. With the bases loaded in the 8th, Alport singled to left field to score runs seven and eight for Beloit.

Beloit returns to the field for the early game tomorrow. First pitch against UW-Superior is set for 8 am CT in Auburndale.
