Baseball's Bats Quiet in Day Two Losses to Duhawks

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Yesterday afternoon the Beloit College baseball team continued action at the RussMatt Invitational with a double-header against the Loras College Duhawks (4-2). The Buc bats were relatively quiet on the day, only mustering 10 hits. Beloit (2-3, 0-0 MWC) fell in both games, 3-1 in game one and 3-2 in 8 innings in game two.

Game 1:
The Bucs' only run came in the bottom of the second inning. Brett Kiger (Beloit, Wis.) led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch before moving into scoring position on a wild pitch. After two straight outs in the air, Elijah Love (Madison, Wis.) singled to center to score Kiger. With starting pitcher Eamon Burke (Helena, Mont.) still on the mound to start the fourth, the Duhawks used a walk, productive ground out, wild pitch and a single to score their first run and tie the game. Burke then gave up another single and walk to load the bases. Micah Wilk (Martinez, Calif.) came in in relief, but a single through the right side scored the Duhawks second and third runs of the game. Wilk settled down over the next 3.2 innings, striking out one and walking one.

Game 2:
In game two, the Duhawks got on the board first in the bottom of the first. Their lead off man reached on an error by Love and advanced to second on the throw. He then moved to third on a passed ball. A deep sacrifice fly to center scored the Loras run. Beloit answered in the top of the fourth. Connor Vogel (Palmdale, Calif.) reached on a error and Kiger walked. Evan Zenger (Burr Ridge, Ill.) came up big with a single back up the middle to score Vogel and move Kiger over to second. Miles Souza (Carpinteria, Calif.) flew out to right field, but deep enough to move Kiger 90 feet. A Drew Hanson (Edgerton, Wis.) single scored Kiger for the Bucs' second run. In his first start of the season, Kaiya Nishino (Seattle, Wash.) went six innings giving up six hits and striking out four. Tommy Murray (Rockton, Ill.)came in to finish off the final 1.2 innings, striking out two. The Duhawks walked the game off in the bottom of the eighth with a deep double over the head of Zenger.

The Bucs are back in action later this morning against Stockton University. First pitch from Auburndale is set for 11:45 am CT.
