Softball Struggles to Score on Day Three in Florida

KIssimmee, FL. - Despite producing 17 hits over two games, the Beloit College Softball team struggled to score on day three of THE Spring Games and fell in both games against Simpson and Bowdoin College.

In game one, the Buccaneers (1-6) matched the Storm with six hits and only one error but left seven runners on the bases. The Bucs' struck first in the top of the third. Jocelyn Jordan (Beloit, Wis.) led off the inning with a single through the right side. Jordan advanced to second on a successful sacrifice bunt from Briana Arteaga (Covina, Calif.). Hannah Beran (Calendonia, Ill.) replaced Jordan at second and came home to score on an Angela Donath (Wausau, Wis.) double to right center. Simpson answered in the bottom of the third with a solo home run. After that, Beloit's offense went quite, while the Storm put up an eight spot in the top of the fifth to end the game at 9-1 following an empty bottom of the fifth by the Bucs.

In game two, the Bucs' squared off with Bowdoin College. Bowdoin plated a run in the top of the first inning. Beloit answered in the bottom half of the inning following a Jordan single and sacrifice bunt from Arteaga. Back-to-back singles from Rachel Overocker (Tinley Park, IL) and Siddalee Meyers (Orfordville, Wis.) moved Jordan from second to third and then third to home to give the Bucs' a 2-1 lead. Over the next two innings, the Bears added six runs to take the game 7-2.

The Buccaneers' return to action tomorrow evening with games at 4 and 7 pm. They will face Ohio Northern University at 4 and University of Northwestern (MN) at 7. Both games will be played at the Legends Way Fields in Clermont, Fla.
