AUBURNDALE, FL. - The Beloit College Baseball team put on an offensive clinic this morning in their game against Greenville University. The Buccaneers (5-3, 0-0 MWC) scored 11 runs to secure the run rule victory over the Panthers (4-11).
With the offense, defense and pitching clicking on all cylinders
Aiden Phipps retired the first three batters in the top of the first.
Jack Alport led off for the Bucs with a single to center.
Matt O'Leary hit a shot to right center, scoring Alport and sliding in safe at third. Conor Vogel had a productive out scoring O'Leary from third with a grounder to the second basemen. With the bases empty,
Brett Kiger singled to center and came around to score on a double down the right field line. The Bucs' left two runners on but took a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the second and third innings, Phipps retired the sides in order. Beloit came up empty in the bottom of the second. In the bottom of the third, Vogel flew out to right and Kiger reached via a walk. He was cut down trying to steal second for the second out of the inning.
Evan Zenger doubled to right center to start the two out rally.
Miles Souza followed with a single to center field that scored Zenger. Souza advanced to second on the throw home to move into scoring position.
Elijah Love doubled down the left field line to score Souza and extend the lead to 5-0.
It wasn't until the top of the 4th that Phipps lost his no-hit bid when the first GU batter laid down a bunt single. The Panthers plated their one and only run after a double to left center. After a scoreless bottom of the fourth for Beloit, they sent eight batters to the plate in the bottom of the fifth. Kiger walked and then scored on a Zenger triple. Zenger scored on a Souza single through the left side. He then stole second before Love walked.
Seth Brankey hit a sacrifice fly to right field that moved Souza 90 feet. Meyers came into pinch hit and got hit by a pitch to load the bases. Alport hit the Bucs' second sac fly of the inning to score Souza. Beloit led 8-1 after five innings.
In the bottom of the seventh, with Love and pinch runner
Riley Ponio on first and second, Alport doubled down the left field line to bring in BC's ninth run of the game. The Bucs ended the game early in the bottom of the eighth. Vogel led off the inning with a double to left center and came in to score on a Zenger single to right field. With the bases loaded, Ponio got hit by a pitch to bring in the eleventh and final run of the game.
The Bucs' face Central College tomorrow for two seven inning games starting at 8:30 am CT.
