OSHKOSH, Wis. - Beloit College Softball opened the 2024 season in Oshkosh, Wis. this weekend with games against UW-Superior and Loras College. The Buccaneers earned a hard fought 4-3 win of UWS in game one but their offense stalled in game two and they fell 1-9 to the Duhawks.
The Yellow Jackets scored first, plating two runs in the second and one in the third. That would round out their scoring for the game. The Buccaneers scored four unanswered in the fourth and fifth innings to take the come-from-behind win. In the fourth,
Siddalee Meyers (Orfordville, Wis.) doubled to right field advancing
Hannah Beran (Calendonia, Ill.) two third.
Stella Lutes grounded out to the pitcher but scored Beran. In the fifth,
Jocelyn Jordan (Beloit, Wis.) and
Briana Arteaga (Covina, Calif.) both singled to put runners on first and second.
Sydney Harbison (Beloit, Wis.) came in to pinch run for Jordan. Three straight singles from
Angela Donath (Wausau, Wis.),
Allison Olson (Sandwich, IL) and
Kaylee Witte (Poplar Grove, IL) scored BC's final three runs. Witte went the distance on the mound, walking four and striking out five to earn her first win of the season.
In game two, the Bucs' offense couldn't keep up with the Duhawks. Their lone run came in the third inning.
Jessalyn Coppe (Niles, IL) started off the inning with a single. Jordan executed a bunt single to place runners at first and second. Arteaga laid down the sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring position. Donath flew out deep enough in center field to score Coppe. The rally would end there for Beloit. Loras rattled off nine unanswered runs to take the game in six innings. Starting pitcher
Helena Harrison (Chapel Hill, N.C.) went just two innings, striking out one.
The Buccaneers don't take the field again until they head to The Spring Games in Florida the week of March 10th-15th. Game dates and times can be found
