MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - This afternoon the Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team opened their two day Minnesota road trip with a 14-10 victory over the Augsburg University Auggies. The Buccaneers (3-3, 0-0 NACC) out shot the Auggies (2-7) 45-18, including a 17-3 advantage in the first quarter.
Despite the offensive dominance by the Bucs, Augsburg got on the board first with a goal at the 12:53 mark. Beloit answered in a big way, scoring four straight goals.
Maya DeGeorge (Grand Junction, Colo.) struck first at 9:53.
Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.) recorded her first goal of the game at the 7:03 mark. With a man advantage,
Cassidy Felix (Bellflower, Calif.) took her shot and buried the Bucs' third goal with just under five minutes to go.
Maggie Mudd (St. Charles, Mo.) found McNair at the 4:41 mark for the fourth and final goal of the first quarter.
Just like the first quarter, the Auggies scored first in the second and found little offensive success after. DeGeorge scored her second goal of the game when Beloit had a man advantage at the 6:39 mark. McNair completed the hat trick with the Buccaneers' sixth goal with 4:24 left in the half. DeGeorge recorded her third goal of the game less than 25 seconds later.
Out of the locker room, Augsburg appeared to have regrouped, scoring the first three goals of the half to cut the Bucs' lead to 7-5. At the 4:28 mark of the DeGeorge put the Buccaneers back up by three with her fourth goal of the game. After two more goals from AU, it looked like the score would be 8-7 heading into the final quarter of play. McNair however, had other plans, scoring with just two seconds remaining.
With both teams hunting for momentum and the win, they combined for eight fourth quarter goals. Augsburg scored first to make it 9-8. DeGeorge, Felix and McNair rattled off three straight goals for Beloit. Mudd earned her second assist of the game on Felix's goal. With under three and a half minutes remaining, AU scored their final two goals of the game. Beloit shut the door for good when Mudd and McNair scored the 13th and 14th goals of the game.
The Buccaneers take on Hamline University for the final game of their road trip tomorrow afternoon. The game in St. Paul, MN. is set for 1 pm.
