CHICAGO, Ill. - This afternoon the Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team moved to 1-1 in NACC play with a win over the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks. With the win, the Buccaneers (5-5, 1-1 NACC) also move back into the win column. The Bucs played some of their cleanest lacrosse of the season, only turning the ball over eight times. Defensively, they forced twenty-two Scarlet Hawk (3-8, 0-2 NACC) turnovers. The Buccaneers defeated the Scarlet Hawks 18-11.
Highlighting the offensive clinic that the Buccaneers put on was
Maggie Mudd (St. Charles, Mo.). Mudd accounted for six of Beloit's eighteen goals.
Daisy Kleinhoffer (Minooka) added two goals of her own, marking her first career multi-goal game. Netting her first goal of the season and second career goal was
Suzanne Healy (St. Charles, Ill.). Healy's goal with 5:27 to go in the 2nd put the Buccaneers up for good. Rounding out the rest of the scoring for Beloit was
Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.) with five and
Maya DeGeorge (Grand Junction, Colo.) with four. Mudd also added two assists while DeGeorge recorded one.
Halfway through the first half, the Buccaneers trailed 3-1. They rattled off three straight goals to close out the first 15 minutes of play including a last second goal by McNair. Five minutes into the second quarter, IIT had retaken a 5-4 lead. Beloit once again went on a run, scoring four out of the final five goals. BC took a 8-6 lead into the break. After making the necessary adjustments in the locker room, Beloit gained all of the offensive momentum in the second half and outscored the Scarlet Hawks 10-5 over the final fifteen minutes of the game.
The Bucs head up to Fond Du Lac, Wis. on Saturday for some more NACC action. They will face the Sabres of Marian University at 12 pm at Smith Field.
