Spartans Too Much For Buccaneers to Handle

AURORA, Ill. - In a battle of two of the top teams in the NACC, the Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team fell to .500 overall and in NACC play with a loss to the Aurora University Spartans. The Buccaneers (6-6, 2-2 NACC) trailed the Spartans (7-6, 3-0) by just two heading into the break but were unable to put together a second half comeback and fell by the final score of 14-7. 

Maya DeGeorge (Grand Junction, Colo.), Maggie Mudd (St. Charles, Mo.) and Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.) continued to power the Beloit offense. DeGeorge opened the scoring for both teams when she buried her first goal at the 13:32 mark in the first quarter. With just over four and a half minutes remaining in the opening frame, McNair tied the game at two. After a foul on the Spartans with two seconds left, Mudd converted on a free posltion attempt to tie it at three. 

DeGeorge netted the Bucs' fourth goal of the game at the 8:24 mark of the second quarter. McNair assisted on the goal that again tied the game. The Bucs trailed 4-6 heading into halftime and an empty third quarter set them back five, 4-9 with just 15 minutes to play. 

Mudd started to dig Beloit out when she scored her second of the game just 30 seconds into the final quarter. The Bucs would go thirteen and a half minutes until their next goal. DeGeorge notched a hat trick with her third goal with a minute to go. McNair closed the scoring for the game at the 30 second mark. Suzanne Healy (St. Charles, Ill.) assisted on the goal. 

The Buccaneers return to Strong Stadium this Saturday, April 20th to host the Falcons of Concordia University-Wisconsin. Game time is set for 11 am.
