BELOIT, Wis. - With the most wins in a conference season in program history already secured, the Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team is making a final push toward the Northern Atheltic Collegiate Conference (NACC) playoffs. The Buccaneers (7-6, 3-2 NACC) came one step closer to that reality this afternoon with a 19-17 victory over the Falcons of Concordia University (Wis.). The Falcons (5-9, 1-4 NACC) out shot Beloit, 40-33 including a 13-4 advantage in the first frame.
Off the opening face off,
Maya DeGeorge (Grand Junction, Colo.) plowed her way down the field and opened the scoring just 16 seconds into the game. Despite the early dominance from the Bucs, the Falcons rattled off four straight goals to that a 4-1 advantage with 8:01 on the clock.
Maggie Mudd (St. Charles, Mo.) buried her first goal of the game at th seven minute mark to cut the CUW lead to two. With 5:48 remaining,
Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.) scored her first goal, pulling BC within one. The Falcons added one with just over two minutes remaining. With twenty seven seconds left, Mudd snuck one passed the CUW goalie to make it 5-4 heading into the second quarter.
Just thirty seven seconds into the second quarter, McNair found
Cassidy Felix (Bellflower, Calif.) open to tie the game at five. The Falcons grabbed the lead again with just under fourteen minutes to go. Back to back goals from McNair and Mudd made it an 7-6 game in favor of Beloit. A CUW goal at the 6:12 mark tied it at seven before three straight goals from McNair (two) and Mudd gave the Bucs a three goal, 10-7 cushion. After 30 minutes of action, the Bucs led 10-8.
Beloit outscored Concordia 4-3 in the third quarter with DeGeorge scoring two and Mudd and McNair each adding one. To end the third and open the fourth, CUW went on a 4-0 run to tie the game at 14. With the momentum leaning towards the Falcons, the Buccaneers stopped the bleed with a goal from DeGeorge at the 10:20 mark. Once again, the Falcons weren't going away and tied the score. Mudd scored her sixth goal of the game at the 8:06 mark when McNair found her for a quick shot passed the goalie. At the 7:22 mark of the final frame, CUW took a brief 17-16 lead. Just 19 seconds later, Mudd tied the game for a final time. She scored Beloit's 18th goal of the game and her eighth, marking a new career-high at the 6:24 mark. DeGeorge scored the final insurance run with under a minute and a half to go.
Sofia Jeddeloh (Verona, Wis.) saved 13 shots in all 60 minutes of action today.
The Buccaneers will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday when they host MSOE. Start time is set for 7 pm.
