Women's Lacrosse Continues to Build Momentum with Senior Night Win

BELOIT, WIs. - This evening, the Beloit College Women's lacrosse team put the final touches on a historic season with a convincing 13-2 win over the Raiders of MSOE. The Buccaneers (8-6, 4-2 NACC) jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the Raiders (4-8, 2-3 NACC) in the first quarter and coasted the rest of the way. Maya DeGeorge (Grand Junction, Colo.) led the way for Beloit, scoring seven goals and dishing out two assists.

DeGeorge and Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.)combined for all six fist quarter goals for the Bucs. DeGeorge opened the scoring at the 13:32 mark. The Buccaneers capitalized on their man up opportunities, going 3-for-6 when they had a man advantage. McNair's goal with 10:48 to go was a man up. Just a minute later, DeGeorge gave the Bucs a 3-0 lead. With under five minutes to go, DeGeorge tallied her third goal of the game. At the 3:39 mark, following a MSOE penalty in the arc, DeGeorge converted on her free position attempt, making it a 5-0 lead. McNair netted the Bucs' sixth goal with 2:59 remaining in the first quarter.

MSOE broke their scoreless streak at the 11:37 mark when they converted on a free position shot. With 8:03 remaining in the half, Maggie Mudd (St. Charles, Mo.) recorded her first goal of the game, once again taking advantage of being a man up. DeGeorge scored Beloit's eight goal and final of the first half with 5:41 left.

Likes she's done so many times this season, DeGeorge opened the second half with a goal directly off winning the opening draw. Her sixth goal of the game came just 30 seconds into the second half. Seven minutes later, the Raiders scored their second and final goal of the game. Mudd scored goals ten and eleven to close out the third and open the fourth. DeGeorge scored the twelfth goal at the 2:28 make and McNair netted lucky number 13 with under two minutes to go.

Sofia Jeddeloh (Verona, Wis.) secured 13 saves in the win, manning the goal for the entire game, as they have done all season.

As it currently stands, the Buccaneers' hold the second place spot in the NACC. With some teams rounding out the regular season this weekend, Beloit will have to wait to see how the tournament seeding plays out. If the Bucs hold on to the two seed, they will host the three seed on Tuesday, April 30th with the time TBD. If they drop to the three or four seed, they will hit the road on the same day.
