MADISON, Wis. - An overtime winner propelled the Buccaneer Women's Lacrosse team over the Edgewood College Eagles in the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference Tournament Semifinals. The Buccaneers (9-6) trailed 5-4 after the first frame but held the Eagles (8-9) scoreless in the second to take a 8-5 lead heading into the break. After each scoring four goals in the fourth, Edgewood outscored the Bucs 4-1 in the fourth to tie the game with two seconds on the clock.
Maggie Mudd (St. Charles, Mo.) buried a free position shot with 59 seconds left in OT to send the Bucs to their first NACC Conference Tournament Championship game in program history.
Maya DeGeorge (Grand Junction, Colo.),
Cassidy Felix (Bellflower, Calif.) and
Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.) accounted for the first three Buccaneer goals in the first quarter. McNair's goal with eight seconds to go in the first frame sparked a 7-0 Buccaneer run that swung the momentum of the game and Beloit a 10-5 lead. The Eagles shut the Bucs down in the fourth only allowing one goal.
Daisy Kleinhoffer (Minooka) netted the lone goal with McNair assisting. Edgewood climbed back each time, with the final time being with just two seconds to go. Kerry Costello converted on a free position shot to keep the Eagles alive.
In the sudden death overtime, both teams fired off three shots, with the Eagles nicking one off the post. An Eagle yellow card gave the Bucs and Mudd a free position shot with 59 seconds on the clock.
Sofia Jeddeloh (Verona, Wis.) earned the win in goal, stopping fourteen shots in 65:01 minutes.
The Buccaneers await the winner of No. 1 Aurora and No. 4 Marian tomorrow evening.
