DE PERE, Wis. - The Beloit College Track and Field teams competed at the St. Norbert Invitational this afternoon. Both teams matches season highs in finishes, with the men finishing second while the women took home a fourth place team finish. Individually, the two teams combined for five first place finishes.
Men:
Alexandre Atou (Abomey Calavi, Benin) continued to run well in the 400, taking home first place with a time of 50.79.
Josh Yearby (West Park, FL) took home the second individual top finish, running a 21.68 200 meter dash. He moves into the top three in the MWC with that time. Following just behind was Atou with a 22.34.
Daniel DeGeorge (Bettendorf, Iowa) and
Izzy Zewdie (Las Vegas, Nev.) finished back-to-back at 5 and 6 with times of 22.93 and 22.94. The trio of Yearby, DeGeorge and Zewdie finished second, sixth and seventh in the 100 as well. Yearby ran a 10.81, to come in second, again moving into the top three in the MWC. DeGeorge grabbed sixth with an 11.58 and Zewdie followed with a 11.63. Beloit's three 4x100 teams finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th, with times of 44.54, 44.64 and 46.50. The Men's 4x400 "A" relay took the top spot with a 3:28.58. Rounding out the running events were the hurdlers.
Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.) and
Azeez Ganiyu (Beloit, Wis.) finished third and eighth in the 110 M hurdles. Otis toed the line in 16.11 seconds while Ganiyu crossed in 16.95 seconds. Otis and
Quintin Lottig (Lake Geneva, Wis.) both finished top five in the 400 M hurdles. Otis took second with a 55.94 and Lottig took fourth at 1:00.09.
Caden Anderson (Westmont, Ill.) highlighted the field events for the men, taking home another first place finish in the javelin with a toss of 47.14 meters. In Triple Jump,
Vansh Bhandari (Mangalore, Karnataka, India) hit 11.84 meters to place second, with
Diontia Charles (Riverdale, Ill.) hitting 11.61 meters for third place. Also in the jumps,
Kevon Mills (Key West, FL) took 4th in the long jump with a jump of 6.74 meters and sixth in high jump by clearing 1.85 meters. Charles took fifth in the high jump, also clearing 1.85 meters.
Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.) took sixth in the shot put, throwing 12.93 meters.
Women:
On the track for the women,
Candis Damtse (Accra, Ghana) and the women's 4x400 relay team took home first place finishes. Damste won the 100 M dash with a time of 12.31 seconds.
Jaeonie Echols (Kansas City, MO) toed the line in 13.01 seconds for sixth place. The 4x400 team ran a 4:12.18 to beat Concordia Wisconsin and UW-Stevens Point. Damste earned another top two finish in the 200 M dash with a 25.10. Her 25.10 is the top time in the MWC this season.
Alayna Furch (Saint Charles, Mo.) and Echols finished 9th and 10th in the 200 with times of 26.46 and 26.72. In the 4x100, the relay team toed the line in 50.36 for third place.
Hannah Welte took home top five finishes in the hurdles, finishing fourth in the !00 M hurdles with a time of 17.29 and third in the 400 M hurdles with a 1:10.89.
Sophia Miller (Salem, Ore.) and
Niomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla) took home 7th and 8th in the 400 M hurdles as well. Miller toed the line in 1:18.95 while Casey in 1:21.41.
In field events,
Naomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla) took home fifth in pole vault, clearing 3.21 meters. Her height sits at the third best in the MWC this season. In high jump,
Elizabeth Kalk (Clinton, Wis.) and
Naomi Murphy (Dubuque, Iowa) finished 4th and 6th. Kalk cleared 1.50 m and Murphy cleared 1.40 m. Finally, Welte placed 5th in the long jump with a jump of 5.19 meters.
The Buccaneers head to Dubuque, Iowa on Friday for the Battle of the Bluffs hosted by the University of Dubuque.
