WAUKESHA, Wis. - Yesterday the Beloit College Track and Field Teams competed outdoors for the first time this season. The team took the short trip to Waukesha and Carroll University for the Wisconsin Private College Championships where they were one of twelve teams. Both teams were looking to build off a successful indoor season. The women saw two first place finishes, one third place finishes, and two seventh place finishes. On the men's side, the Bucs earned four first place finishes, two second place finishes, one third place finish, two fourth place finishes, one fifth place finish, and a sixth and seventh place.
For the women,
Candis Damtse (Accra, Ghana) continued her dominance in the sprints, taking first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.76. The 4x400 relay consisting of
Sophia Miller (Salem, Ore.), Damste,
Jaeonie Echols (Kansas City, MO) and
Alayna Furch (Saint Charles, Mo.) also carried over their success from the indoor season, taking the top spot with a time of 4:07.98. That time also gives them the top spot in the MWC by nearly six seconds. The 4x100 meter relay that is run by Echols, Damste,
Hannah Welte (Clinton, Wis.) and Furch placed third, clocking a 50.03. In the field events, the Bucs got seventh place finishes from
Elizabeth Kalk (Clinton, Wis.) and
Haley Carlin (Sarasota, Fla.). Kalk placed 7th in the High Jump, reaching 1.50 meters while Carlin reached 2.61 meters in the pole vault.
Alexandre Atou (Abomey Calavi, Benin) earned the lone first place finish on the track for the men, with the two other coming from Caden Anderson (Westmont, Ill.) and Diontia Charles (Riverdale, Ill.) in field events. Atou beat out the field in the 400 meter finals with a time of 11.16, giving him the top time in the MWC as well. Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.) took home second place in the 400 meter hurdles clocking in a 56.31. Otis earns the top spot in the MWC by over a second with that time. Beloit's 4x400 meter relay comprised of Atou, Daniel DeGeorge (Bettendorf, Iowa), Izzy Zewdie (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Otis ran a 3:23.49, placing second. They clock in as the top spot in conference with that. Continuing the strong success in the relays, the 4x100 group made up of Ayouba Sumoaro (Las Vegas, NV), DeGeorge, Otis and Josh Yearby (West Park, FL) took third with a 43.02 time. Closing out the running events, Yearby placed fourth in 200 meter dash, running a 22.60. Charles and Anderson highlighted a successful field showing with first place finishes in high jump and javelin. Charles measured a 1.90 m jump in the high jump while Anderson threw for 49.71 meters. Beloit also took the four, five and seven spot in the high jump. Kevon Mills (Key West, FL) reached 1.80m, Otis 1.75m and Michael Myles (Atlanta, Ga.) 1.70m. Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.) Marte placed 6th in the shot put with a 13.29 meter throw, enough for sixth place.
The Buccaneers' look ahead to next weekend when they host the Beloit Relays at Strong Stadium in Beloit. Events will start at 11am.
