Softball Wraps Up Conference Opening Weekend With Games Against Grinnell

BELOIT, Wis. - Beloit College softball wrapped up a busy weekend hosting their second straight MWC double-header. This afternoon the Grinnell College Pioneers were in town. In both games the Buccaneers (3-19, 0-4 MWC) stuck with the Pioneers (12-12, 2-2 MWC) until the fourth inning before falling in both games 1-7 and 2-9.

In game one, IIsabel Johnson (Austin, Texas) drove in the lone run for the Buccaneers. After the Pioneers plated a run in the top of the second, Rachel Overocker (Tinley Park, IL) led off the inning by reaching base via an error. Bo Everly (Waunakee, WI) came in to pinch run for Overocker. A few batters later, Johnson doubled to right center to bring Everly in to score.

In the second game, Beloit struck first. Three straight walks for Allison Olson (Sandwich, IL), Siddalee Meyers (Orfordville, Wis.) and Johnson loaded the bases for Stella Lutes (Riverside, IL). Lutes singled to right to score Olson. A fielder's choice for Hannah Beren cut Meyers down at home and a fly out promptly ended the Bucs' scoring threat. Grinnell took the lead in the top of the fifth thanks to a three run home run and an RBI single. Beloit pushed their second run across in the bottom of the sixth. Three straight singles from Olson, Meyers and Johnson once again loaded the bases for Lutes. Lutes hit into a fielder's choice in which Johnson was thrown out at second but allowed Olson to score.

On the day, Lutes went 2-6 with two RBIs and Johnson went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

The Buccaneers' get a much needed break after six games in three days and don't hit the field again until Saturday, April 13th. Beloit will head down to Jacksonville, Ill. for a double header against the Illinois College Lady Blues. First pitch for game one is set for 1 pm.
