Buccaneers Unable to Slow Down Penguins Offense

BELOIT, Wis. - This afternoon the Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team hosted the Penguins of Dominican University of California. The Buccaneers (4-5, 0-1 NACC) were unable to slow down the potent offense of Dominican (3-5) and eventually fell 18-8. 

Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.) tied the game at one when she buried the Bucs first goal with 10:27 to go in the first. After falling behind 7-1 after the first quarter, Beloit scored the first two goals of the second. Cassidy Felix (Bellflower, Calif.) fired a shot with 11:13 on the clock to bring Beloit within five. Less than a minute later Maya DeGeorge (Grand Junction, Colo.) tallied her first goal of the game to bring the score to 7-3. Over the next nine or so minutes, Dominican went on another run, rattling off four straight to widen the gap, 11-3. With under two minutes remaining in the half, McNair recorded her second goal of the game to send Beloit to the break down 11-4. 

The Penguins opened the scoring in the second half with a goal at the 12:37 mark. Fifteen seconds later, Maggie Mudd (St. Charles, Mo.) netted her first goal of the game off a pass from DeGeorge. Mudd's goal made it 12-5. Just over a minute later, it was DeGeorge again. She cut the DU lead in half, 12-6. The Bucs went nine minutes without scoring again, while the Penguins added another four goals, extending their lead to 10, 16-6. Over the final 18 minutes of action, each team would add two goals to their total. Beloit got goals from DeGeorge and McNair. DeGeorge's third goal of the game came with 31 seconds remaining in the third quarter. The third goal for McNair came with under two minutes remaining in the game. Mudd assisted on the goal at the 1:44 mark. 

The Buccaneers head back in conference on Thursday when they head to Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). Game time in Chicago, Ill. on April 11th is set for 5 pm.
