BELOIT, Wis. - The Beloit College Women's soccer team hosted the Webster University Groloks (1-0-0, 0-0-0) in their first home match of the season this afternoon. The Buccaneers (0-2-0, 0-0-0) took a 2-1 lead into the break but Webster answered with three goals in the second half to take the gme 4-3.
Webster took a quick 1-0 lead when they scored in the 14th minute off a corner kick.
Abbey Scott (Oswego, Ill.) and the Bucs answered just seven minutes later to tie it at a goal a piece. In the 40th minute,
Megan Thompson (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) put the Bucs ahead for the remainder of the half. Webster out shot the Bucs 11-2 in the first half but WU recorded no saves while
Maya Betzler (College Place, Wash.) recorded eight.
Just ten minutes into the second half, WU tied the game once again at two and briefly took a 3-2 lead in the 72nd minute. Thompson netted her second goal of the game in the 74th minute to even the score and prepare for the final push. The Groloks stalled Beloit's momentum with their fourth goal four minutes later. They handled the Bucs pressure over the final twelve minutes. Betzler finished with 14 saves.
The Buccaneers hit the road on Wednesday, September 4th against Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. Kick off is set for 7 pm against the Eagles.
