Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Buccaneers Hook Muskies for First Win of the Season

BELOIT, Wis. - The Beloit College Women's soccer team defeated the Lakeland Univeristy Muskies this afternoon for their first win of the season. The Buccaneers (1-3-1, 0-0-0) found themselves playing 11v10 just four minutes into the game after a Muskies defender drew a red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity.

The Muskies (1-2-0, 0-0-0) held their own defensively for about 50 minutes. Anna Williams (Fenton, Mo.) scored the first Beloit goal just under six minutes into the game. Despite firing off 18 total shots in the first half, the Bucs led by just one after the first 45 minutes.

It wouldn't be until the 62nd minute that Beloit busted the game open. Megan Thompson (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) struck first, scoring off a ball from Natalie Ortiz (Crystal Lake, Ill.). Just two minutes later, Ortiz finished alone, extending the Bucs lead to three. Thompson sealed the deal in the 66th minute after a Beloit corner from Abigail Membrino (Darien, Wis.) that bounced around in front of the net a bit. Thompson found the back of the net after she corralled her own rebound and took a second shot.

Maya Betzler (College Place, Wash.) played 70+ minutes in goal before making way for Daisy Kleinhoffer (Minooka, Ill.). Neither goal faced a shot on goal.

The Buccaneers hit the road on Friday and make the short trip up to Milwaukee, Wis. for a match up against the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran College. Kick off from Warriors Soccer Field is set for 7 pm.
