Mount Vernon, IA. - The Beloit College Men's Soccer team kicked off Midwest Conference (MWC) play earlier today when they traveled to Mount Vernon and Cornell College for a clash with the Rams.
The Buccaneers (1-9-0, 0-1 MWC) succumbed 0-4, giving up two goals in each half to the Rams (3-5-0, 1-0-0 MWC). Cornell scored their first goal in the 30th minute, a penalty kick goal. Three minutes later, they extended their lead to two. Their goals in the 2nd half came in the 64th and 74th minutes.
Beloit fired off twelve total shots, with five being on goal.
Tony Vogt (Elkhorn, Wis.) (2),
Colin Frank (2) and
Mamucha Munthali (Johannesburg) (1) recorded the shots on goal while
Santiago Gomez (Marietta, GA),
Devin Brog (Sandy, UT) and
Elijah Hartberg (Stoughton, Wis.) also struck the ball well.
David Staats (Meridian, ID) held down the goal for all ninety minutes, making five saves.
The Bucs step back out of conference on Wednesday, October 2nd when they head up to Stevens Point to face the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point.
