MOUNT VERNON, IA.- The Beloit College Women's Soccer team opened Midwest Conference (MWC) play this afternoon with a 4-1 victory over the Rams of Cornell College. Scoring the fourth and final goal for Beloit was Freshman
Willow Mashkuri (Middlesex, VT), the goal marked the first of her collegiate career.
It only took the Bucs a minute and thirty nine seconds to take a 1-0 advantage over the Rams.
Abigail Membrino (Darien, Wis.) broke her scoreless streak to give Beloit the early lead. Just two minutes later, the Buccaneers top goal scorer
Megan Thompson (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) got in on the action, connecting on a ball from
Natalie Ortiz (Crystal Lake, Ill.). The Bucs took a 2-0 lead into the break, looking to add to their lead in the second half.
Five minutes into the second half, Ortiz capitalized and scored a goal of her own, making it a 3-0 game. Finally, with just two seconds left it was Maskuri's turn.
The Buccaneers were highly efficient in their shooting this afternoon, firing off 12 shots, 10 on goal and scoring four.
Maya Betzler (College Place, Wash.) manned the goal for the Bucs, making two saves while seeing just three shots on goal.
The Bucs don't play for another week. They will face another MWC foe in the Monmouth Fighting Scots on October 5th. Kick off from the Strong Complex Soccer Field is set for 1:30 pm.
