BELOIT, Wis. - The Beloit College women's basketball team snapped their recent skid with a commanding 73-58 victory over Monmouth College in Midwest Conference action Saturday afternoon at Flood Arena.
The win marked just the second of the season for the Buccaneers (2-13, 1-5 Midwest Conference), and avenged an earlier season loss to the Fighting Scots (4-10, 1-4 MWC)
The duo of
Hailey Johnson (South Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.) powered Beloit's offense, each contributing 18 points in efficient shooting performances. Johnson connected on 4-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc, while McNair dominated inside, converting 8 of her 9 field goal attempts.
Hadja Bayo (Round Rock, Texas) provided a strong interior presence for the Buccaneers, recording 11 points and 8 rebounds while facilitating the offense with 5 assists. The balanced Beloit attack featured contributions from the bench, which accounted for 18 points.
The Buccaneers established their advantage early, taking a 17-13 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 34-22 by halftime. Though Monmouth made a push in the third quarter by outscoring Beloit 22-17, the home team responded with a strong final period to secure the victory.
Beloit's shooting efficiency proved decisive, as they connected on 48.1% of their field goal attempts and 45% from three-point range. The team also controlled the glass, outrebounding Monmouth 45-37.
The Buccaneers look to carry this momentum into Tuesday, when they host Grinnell. Tip off from Flood Arena is set for 5:30 pm.
