BELOIT, Wis. - In a Midwest Conference women's basketball match up on Tuesday evening, Beloit College struggled to find their offensive rhythm in a 70-40 loss to Grinnell at Flood Arena. The defeat drops the Buccaneers to 2-14 (1-6 MWC) on the season while the Pioneers improve to 10-6 (4-3 MWC).
Beloit faced challenges from the opening tip, falling behind early as Grinnell built a 23-14 first quarter lead. The offensive woes continued throughout the game, as the Buccaneers shot just 27.1% from the field (16-59) and managed only one free throw attempt in the entire contest.
Kaelie Moreno (Yorkville, Ill.) provided a bright spot for Beloit, leading the team with 11 points including three 3-pointers.
Hailey Johnson (South Milwaukee, Wis.) added 8 points and
Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.) contributed 7, but the team struggled to generate consistent offense against Grinnell's defense.
Despite the outcome, Beloit showed some fight on the defensive end, forcing 14 Grinnell turnovers and recording 5 steals. The Buccaneers also managed to stay competitive on the boards for stretches.
The Buccaneers wrap up this four game home stretch on Saturday when they host the Knox College Prairie Fire in another Midwest Conference clash. Tip off from Flood Arena is set for 1 pm.
