BELOIT, Wis. - The Beloit College Men's Basketball team suffered a tough home loss to Knox (4-11, 1-5 MWC) despite leading for much of the contest on Thursday afternoon at Flood Arena. The Bucs (6-10, 2-6 MWC) held control for nearly 30 minutes but couldn't maintain their advantage in the closing stretch.
Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) led Beloit with 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including three 3-pointers, while
Azeez Ganiyu (Beloit, Wis.) added 14 points and 5 rebounds. The Bucs started strong, building an early 13-4 lead behind aggressive defense and transition scoring. They maintained that momentum through the first half, taking a 32-27 lead into the break.
However, Knox began to chip away in the second half, finally taking the lead at the 8:40 mark on a Sean Gallery layup that made it 50-49. Gallery finished with a game-high 21 points for Knox. The game remained tight down the stretch, but Knox pulled away in the final minutes, helped by strong free throw shooting (12-of-17 for the game).
A key factor in Beloit's loss was their shooting struggles in the second half, where they connected on just 32% from the field (8-of-25) and 10% from three-point range (1-of-10). They also had issues at the free throw line, making only 12 of 26 attempts for the game.
Jabari Scuefield (Hazel Crest, Ill.) contributed 5 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Beloit, while
Clayton Jenny (Edgerton, Wis.) added 5 points and 4 assists. The Bucs' bench was outscored 27-15 by Knox's reserves.
The Buccaneers head to Lake Forest on Wednesday, January 22nd in hopes of snapping a four-game conference losing skid. Tip off from the Sports & Recreation Center is set for 7:30 pm.
