JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Beloit College Men's Basketball traveled to Jacksonville, Illinois, to take on the Illinois College Blueboys, ultimately falling 61-50 in a hard-fought contest. With the loss, the Buccaneers fall to 6-12 and 2-8 in MWC play. Illinois College improves to 13-5 and 6-3 in conference.
The Buccaneers showcased a solid offensive performance in the first half, shooting an impressive 45.2% from the field and hitting four three-pointers. Led by
Azeez Ganiyu's (Beloit, Wis.) 11 first-half points and
Anthony Carter's (Greenfield, Wis.) 7, Beloit took a 34-27 lead going into the locker room. Despite the positive start, Beloit's shooting cooled off significantly in the second half, making only 21.7% of their field goals and two of eight three-point attempts.
The Buccaneers' struggles in the second half were further compounded by a lack of consistency on the boards and high turnover rate. Ganiyu led the team with 14 points, while Carter finished with 10, but those scoring efforts were ultimately not enough to overcome Illinois College's second-half surge. Beloit's bench managed to score 17 points, while their opponent had 21. The team also had difficulty finding their range in the second half, allowing Illinois to take the lead in the third quarter.
The Buccaneers head to Appleton, Wisconsin on Tuesday. The Buccaneers defeated the Vikings on December 3rd to open MWC play. Tip off from the Alexander Gymnasium is set for 7:30 pm.
